Privacy Policy for BeeTalk
Effective date: September 9, 2026
BeeTalk is an educational app for Vietnamese caregivers who want simple English phrases to use with young children. This Privacy Policy explains what information BeeTalk collects, how it is used, and what choices you have.
Information We Collect
BeeTalk does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or child profile.
The app may process the following information:
- Camera or photo input: If you choose to take or select a photo, BeeTalk resizes it on your device and sends it to the BeeTalk recognition server so the app can identify everyday objects and suggest English words and phrases. Photos are sent only after you choose to use the recognition feature.
- Manual object names: If you type the name of an object, BeeTalk sends that text to the BeeTalk recognition server to generate learning content.
- Learning preferences: BeeTalk stores and may send your selected age range, language level, speech voice, and speech speed so the app can tailor suggested phrases.
- Saved content: BeeTalk stores saved phrases, activities, objects, and preferences locally on your device.
- Speech requests: If you use an AI speech voice for a phrase that is not already bundled in the app, BeeTalk sends the phrase text and selected voice to the BeeTalk speech server so an audio clip can be generated.
- Technical information: BeeTalk's server may receive basic request information, such as IP address and request timing, as part of normal internet communication and rate limiting.
How We Use Information
BeeTalk uses information to:
- identify everyday objects in a photo or from a typed name;
- provide English words, Vietnamese meanings, pronunciation help, and short phrase suggestions;
- generate or play speech audio;
- save your app preferences and saved learning content on your device;
- protect the service from abuse, excessive requests, and technical failures;
- diagnose service errors without logging photos, raw request content, API keys, or credentials.
Photos and Image Recognition
BeeTalk does not save photos to your in-app collection. When you use image recognition, the app sends a resized JPEG image to the BeeTalk server. The server validates the image and forwards it to Google Gemini for object recognition with storage disabled where supported by the API request.
BeeTalk's server does not write photos to disk and does not store photos in its recognition cache. It may temporarily keep a hash of the request and the validated recognition result in memory for up to 1 hour to reduce repeated processing. This cache is deleted when the server restarts or when entries expire.
You should avoid submitting photos that contain private, sensitive, or identifying information. BeeTalk is designed to identify everyday objects, animals, plants, food, and vehicles, and it instructs the recognition service not to identify or describe people.
Audio
BeeTalk includes some pre-generated audio clips in the app. For other supported phrases, BeeTalk may request generated speech from the BeeTalk server, which may use ElevenLabs or another configured speech provider. The request contains the phrase text and selected voice. BeeTalk does not use your microphone and does not send microphone recordings.
Generated audio may be cached on the server temporarily and may be saved locally on your device so the same phrase can be played again without another download.
Local Storage
BeeTalk stores the following on your device:
- saved phrases, activities, and object entries;
- app preferences, such as age range, level, voice, and speech speed;
- downloaded speech audio files.
This local data remains on your device unless you delete it through device settings, clear app data, or uninstall the app.
Third-Party Services
BeeTalk may use the following third-party services to provide app features:
- Google Gemini, for image and text-based object recognition.
- ElevenLabs, for generated speech audio in beta or configured builds.
- Expo and platform services, for app runtime functionality such as camera, photo selection, local storage, and audio playback.
These providers may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms. BeeTalk does not sell personal information and does not use advertising SDKs.
Children's Privacy
BeeTalk is intended for use by parents and caregivers. Children are not required to create accounts, enter personal information, or use the app directly. Caregivers should supervise any app use around children and should avoid submitting photos or text that includes a child's personal or sensitive information.
If you believe personal information from a child has been submitted through BeeTalk, contact us so we can review and delete information that is still available to us.
Data Sharing
BeeTalk does not sell your information. BeeTalk shares information only as needed to operate app features, such as sending a photo or phrase to the configured recognition or speech provider, complying with law, protecting the app from abuse, or maintaining service security.
Data Retention
BeeTalk keeps most user content on your device. Server-side recognition caches are temporary and stored in memory. Photos are not written to disk by the BeeTalk server. Generated audio may be cached temporarily on the server and may be stored locally on your device.
Server logs are designed to avoid photos, text prompts, credentials, and raw provider responses. Operational rate limits and caches may reset when the server restarts.
Permissions
BeeTalk may request these device permissions:
- Camera: used to take photos of everyday objects for learning suggestions.
- Photos or media library: used when you choose an existing image for recognition.
- Audio playback settings: used to play pronunciation and phrase audio.
BeeTalk does not require microphone access for its current features.
Your Choices
You can:
- choose not to use camera, photo selection, AI recognition, or generated speech features;
- use the built-in phrase library without submitting photos;
- deny or revoke camera and photo permissions in your device settings;
- delete saved local data by clearing app data or uninstalling BeeTalk;
- contact us to request deletion of information that may still be available on the BeeTalk server.
Security
BeeTalk uses reasonable technical measures to protect information, including request validation, rate limits, HTTPS for production deployments, and limited server logging. No internet service can guarantee complete security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as BeeTalk changes. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and publish the revised policy.
